Choose a Garden Trellis by Planting Space and Frame Shape
Start with the space the support will occupy, then consider the plant you want to train. The metal panel sets in this range have listed heights from 182 to 220 cm and narrow individual widths. The netted vegetable supports have a three-dimensional footprint: the A-frame measures 105 × 105 × 176 cm, while the U-shaped frame measures 105 × 162 × 160 cm. A taller panel is not automatically a better choice if you cannot reach the growth or anchor it securely.
Compare the Trellises in This Range
The measurements below come from the individual product specifications. Panel dimensions are width × height; A-frame and U-frame dimensions are length × width × height. Listed heights are not a promise of usable height above the soil: check the product diagram and installation instructions before allowing for ground insertion.

| Model and material | Listed dimensions | Finished quantity | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| 182 cm black iron panel set | Each 50 × 182 cm | 2 trellises from 6 panels | 23 cm ground stakes; two narrow supports for separate planting positions. |
| 176 cm netted A-frame | 105 × 105 × 176 cm | 1 frame | Nylon netting and ground spikes; a square footprint for a vegetable-growing layout. |
| 214 cm decorative iron set | Each 48 × 214 cm; listed overall size 97.5 × 214 cm | 2 trellises | 20 cm ground stakes; colourful detailing on a black iron frame. |
| 160 cm netted U-frame | 105 × 162 × 160 cm | 1 frame | Nylon netting and ground spikes; allow for the longer footprint and access around the frame. |
| 195 cm black iron panel set | Each 50 × 195 cm | 2 trellises from 6 panels | 23 cm ground stakes; the same listed width as the 182 cm set, with a taller frame. |
| 210 cm black iron trellis fence | Each 50 × 210 cm | 2 trellises from 4 panels | 22.5 cm ground stakes; decorative scroll, flower and bird details. |
| 220 cm black iron set | Each 47.5 × 220 cm; listed overall size 148 × 220 cm | 3 trellises | 21 cm ground stakes; use the separately listed overall width when planning the layout. |
For these models, the listed sizes, decorative-set quantities and stake lengths were cross-checked against the August 2026 supplier specifications. The supplier table does not state whether panel heights include the stakes or specify wall-mounting hardware. Confirm those details from the product diagram or installation instructions; do not assume a supplied ground stake is a wall fixing.
Metal Panels or a Netted Vegetable Trellis?
For climbing flowers beside a bed or path, compare the individual panel width and the number of separate supports you need. The 182 cm and 195 cm sets each provide two 50 cm-wide trellises. The 210 cm design adds decorative motifs, while the 214 cm set introduces colour. These dimensions help with layout; they do not establish that a panel can carry any mature climber. Check the plant's eventual size and the product's installation requirements.
For cucumbers and other climbing vegetables, compare the netted frames by footprint and access. The A-frame occupies a listed 105 × 105 cm base; the U-frame is 105 × 162 cm. Both combine iron construction with nylon mesh. Measure the bed and leave space to reach plants from the sides rather than assuming a frame will fit because its height looks suitable.
Check Pack Quantity, Soil Depth and Access Before Ordering
- Count finished supports, not loose sections. Six panels in the 182 cm or 195 cm package assemble into two trellises, not six separate full-height units. The 210 cm package uses four panels to make two trellises.
- Use the listed overall layout where provided. The 214 cm and 220 cm sets have overall widths stated separately from individual panel widths. Do not calculate installed coverage by multiplying panel width alone.
- Check the anchoring space. The decorative panel sets list ground stakes between 20 and 23 cm. A stake length alone is not a guarantee of stability; the soil, exposure and installation method also matter.
- Keep maintenance within reach. Allow space for tying, pruning and harvesting, as well as paths, doors and neighbouring plants. Our guide to choosing trellis height explains the practical checks.
If you are planning a trellis beside a planter, compare the usable soil depth and footprint of your raised garden bed with the support's requirements. Do not assume a tall trellis can be anchored in a shallow box, or that separate trellises are designed to bolt onto every planter. Read the guide to securing a trellis in soil or raised beds before choosing a position.
When Is a Trellis Fence the Right Choice?
The 210 cm trellis fence offers two tall, open panels for climbing support and a decorative planting line. If your main goal is low edging rather than upward growth, compare the decorative garden fence range. Open trellises do not provide instant solid privacy and should not be treated as security, pool or animal-containment barriers.
Outdoor Placement and Care
Check each listing for its finish and care instructions; iron construction does not mean permanent rust resistance. Follow the supplied assembly instructions, position ground supports in suitable soil, and recheck connections and stability as plants grow. Do not assume a quoted static load capacity is a wind rating or that every panel is designed for wall mounting.
Garden Trellis FAQs
Which trellis is best for climbing roses?
A tall metal trellis can suit climbing roses when its dimensions, stability and installation method match the plant's expected mature size. Tie new growth with suitable soft plant ties and check the support regularly.
What type of trellis works for cucumbers?
A-frame and U-shaped supports with netting provide multiple attachment points and access from the sides. Check the assembled growing area and mesh configuration shown on the product page.
Can a garden trellis be used as a fence?
Some paired panels can create a decorative border or light screen. They are not substitutes for regulated boundary, pool, security or animal-containment fencing unless explicitly certified for that purpose.
